Togbegãs Profile

Birth and Parentage

Togbegã Abutia Kodzo Gidi V was born on 13th September 1981 into the Royal Hlorviafe Family. He is the son of Zikpuitor Seth Kodzo Attah (deceased), who served as the Stool Father of the Paramount Stool of the Abutia Traditional Area, and Tsiami Aurelia Agbleke (deceased), a member of the Ahanoe Clan of Abutia Teti and the Most Senior Linguist to the Paramount Queen Mother of Abutia.

Educational Background

Togbegã began his formal education at E. P. Primary School and E. P. Junior High School, Abutia Teti, completing his basic education in 1994.

He proceeded to Ho Technical University (then Ho Polytechnic) and obtained a Diploma in Business Studies (Accounting option) in July 2001. In 2005, he returned to the same institution to pursue a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing, which he completed in 2007. Togbegã later enrolled at the Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Ho, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) (Hons) in Business Administration (Marketing option) in July 2010.

In 2012, he furthered his education by enrolling in an online International Executive master’s degree in business administration (IEMBA) at the Paris Graduate School of Management, Paris, France. In 2019, he gained admission to the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) to pursue a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Development Finance, which he successfully completed in September 2021.

Currently, Togbegã is a doctoral student at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa, Upper West Region of Ghana, where he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Planning and Sustainable Development.

Enstoolment

The Abutia Paramount Black Stool became vacant in September 1990. Consequently, Zikpuitor Attah Kodzo assumed leadership of the Council of Elders, together with Togbe Keh Kwasi VII, the Most Senior Mankrado of Abutia, with support from the Town Development Committee, the People’s Defence Committee (PDC), and the Unit Committees, to maintain peace and order within the Abutia State.

Despite these efforts, the prolonged vacancy of the Paramount Stool created a power vacuum that adversely affected peace and development in the Abutia Traditional Area. To resolve this situation, the Kwaku Haligah Committee—comprising Mr. Kwaku Haligah (deceased), Mr. E. K. Amedzro (deceased), Mr. E. K. Kudiabor (deceased), and Mr. Hanson Kodzo Dogbeten (deceased)—was constituted to restore peace and identify a suitable candidate for the Paramount Stool.

On 1st September 1998, the kingmakers of the Royal Hlorviafe Clan presented a new leader to the people of Abutia. Known in private life as Mr. Elikem Sitsofe Kwasi Attah, he was enstooled as Togbegã Abutia Kodzo Gidi V, becoming the seventeenth (17th) occupant of the Paramount Black Stool of Abutia. He swore the Great Oath on 8th September 1998, marking a significant turning point in the history of the Abutia State. At the age of nineteen (19), he became the youngest person ever to ascend the Paramount Black Stool of Abutia.

Following the creation of the Abutia Traditional Council by His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and its subsequent inauguration in 2022 on behalf of the President by Hon. Kofi Dzamesi, then Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Togbegã became a member of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, where he currently serves on its Judicial Committee.

Working Life

Togbegã began his professional career with the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department, where he was posted to the Ghana Health Service as an Accounts Officer in charge of boards and corporations at Ridge Hospital, Accra, from 2002 to 2005.

He undertook his post-HND National Service with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and chose to teach at his alma mater, Abutia Senior High Technical School, where he taught Business Management, earning the admiration of both students and colleagues.

After completing his undergraduate studies at Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Ho, Togbegã was employed by the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) in 2011 as a Business Development Officer, stationed at Sogakope. After six (6) years of dedicated service, he resigned in April 2017 to focus full-time on his traditional responsibilities. This decision ultimately led to the successful establishment of the Abutia Traditional Council and increased engagement in agriculture.

Togbegã has a strong passion for farming and is actively involved in the cultivation of teak, cocoa, coconut, maize, pepper, and cassava. Currently, Togbegã Abutia Kodzo Gidi V serves as a Director of CCL Properties Management Company Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SSNIT.
